...A NEW INDEPENDENT VOICE FOR ULSTER COUNTY

Politically connected people of both major parties, along with their closest friends have been running the government for thirty years in Ulster County.  I am not a product or part of the “good old boys” network of either major party. I believe that we need results in Ulster County, not “deals.” Accomplishments, not press releases. Real economic development. Not wasteful pork barrel spending.

Taxpayers deserve a County Executive who has the courage to stand up to special interests and for the taxpayers every single day.

We have to end back room deal making and open up government. I am proud to be independent of political party bosses. The current County Administrator owes his job to politicians who have sat idly by keeping massive tax hikes in place while the people of Ulster County suffer. We need independent leadership in government, and we need it now.

I believe in ending private consultants hired by the County whenever possible. Many private consultants are politically connected individuals. I believe we should use our county workforce to get the job done, not dole out secret, no-bid contracts to politically connected individuals.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS, NOT RHETORIC

We need to change our government from a tax raising, big spending government which chases jobs out of Ulster County into a government that meets the needs of the people of this County, but doesn’t tax people and jobs out of Ulster County.

In the end, Gove rnment must be about getting things done, not mere rhetoric. The current County Administration has taken the 2006 budget’s outrageous 39% tax hike, kept that tax hike in place all the while raising taxes more for in 2007 and 2008.

On top of that, the County has sought a new tax on mortgages and a tax on hotels and motels – which would be used for more government spending.

For all the talk in Ulster County of making government more efficient, we have to ask ourselves a very basic question: Are we better off now than we were three years ago (when the current administration was elected)? Have jobs been created? Have taxes been lowered? Do we feel that the next generation will be able to stay and prosper in Ulster County?
I welcome your support and your help.
